COLT Institute of karate and Holistic health is affiliated to Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate-do Kyokai, New Zealand. We train and practice karate under the guidance of our Grand Master Kyoshi Dennis May VIII Dan Black Belt, New Zealand.
COLT Institute of Karate teaches self defense this really implies mastering against ourselves i.e. against anger, jealousy, tension, ego, fear, complexes, laziness, hesitation etc. We teach both traditional and sports karate to develop the interests and enhance the youth in the country. Here to attain Black belt we conduct a two days residential course where vigorous practice is given and he or she will be tested in all the practices he had been taught. This distinctive foundation has won a lot of international and national championships in Karate.
The word karate is a combination of two Japanese characters: Kara, meaning "Empty", and Te, meaning "hand"; thus, karate means "Empty hand". Adding the suffix "-Do" (pronounced "doe"), meaning "way," i.e., karate-do, implies karate as a total way of life that goes well beyond the self-defense applications. In traditional karate-do, we always keep in mind that the true opponent is oneself.
Karate can also be described as a martial art, or fighting method, involving a variety of techniques, including blocks, strikes, evasion, throws, and joint manipulations. Karate practice is divided into three aspects: kihon (basics), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring).Training in karate-do became an education for life itself.
Karate-do strives internally to train the mind to develop a clear conscience, enabling one to face the world honestly, while externally developing strength to the point where one may overcome even ferocious wild animals. Mind and technique become one in true karate.
To encourage this Martial art in our nation, every year we conduct National Level Karate tournaments and Inter-Dojo Tournaments. Many participants all across the country participate in this grand finale.
